What to Expect

Being new in a church can be very intimidating!  As a pastor of 33 years, I still feel jittery as I enter a new church.  Here are a few tips to help you feel more comfortable.

  • At Connell, we don’t have a dress code.   Some dress in Sunday finest, others in their shorts.  Some wear a tie, others an open collar shirt.  Whatever you wear, you will find someone dressed like you.

  • There are no reserved seats.  This once was true at Connell, but no more.  As you enter, an usher can assist you in finding a seat, or you are welcome to sit wherever you are comfortable.

  • We will not single out our visitors during worship.  This really makes people anxious, and we will not do it.  Several of our members will recognize that you are new and welcome you with a warm greeting and a coffee mug.

  • On your first Sunday, come in the front door.  The doors at the ramp lead straight into the worship space, and many feel uncomfortable entering through this door.  It is, however, always open and our regulars are used to it.

  • The nursery is located on the lower level of the education building.  Two childcare providers are always in the nursery and we follow safe sanctuary practices at all times.

  • Most of what you need to know to worship with us is projected on the walls.  We have a bulletin to follow as well.  If you have a question, ask someone in a pew beside you.  They will be delighted to help.

  • Following the worship experience, one of the pastors would love to meet you.  Generally, Rev. Rita is in the front entry (narthex) and Pastor Paul remains near the chancel rail.

  • Following our early service, we have coffee and pastries available in our fellowship hall.  This is located through the doors at the front of the worship area and through the Gathering Area.

  • There is a restroom in the Bell Tower for your convenience.  Other restrooms are located in the Gathering Area.

I hope you will visit us soon.  Please email us if there is anything that we can do to make your first visit more comfortable.
